PROTECTION BOARDS
Q. Do I really require protection boards on my paving during earthworks?
A. No, protection boards are not compulsory, but you must remember that with a standard excavation a bobcat will be travelling back and fourth up to a 100 times. The boards will act as a buffer between the heavy machine and the surface which is being protected, it also distributes the machines weight over the surface area of the board preventing indentations from the tyres.
Q. Do you lay the boards out when they are delivered?
A. Yes, the prices which are quoted include the delivery, laying and pickup of the boards.
Q. Are the boards a guarantee that the pavers will not be damaged?
A. No, the boards are merely a protection for your driveways, paving and grass. Providing there is substantial support under the area being protected the boards will act as a buffer spreading the weight distribution throughout the surface are of the board preventing indentations in the path of the heavy machinery.
Q. What are the dimensions of the board? (Show link – std b/cat & mini b/cat)
A. The standard measurement of the board is 2400mm x 1200mm. A standard bobcat is approx 1700mm in width which leaves approx 300mm on each side of the board as over hang.
Q. How long are the boards left on site for?
A. The boards are delivered and laid the day before excavation and collected on the 8th day after delivery. Eg Delivered Monday 13th / Picked up Tuesday 21st.
Q. What if I require the boards for a longer period of time?
A. Charges will apply after the boards have been on site for a week. Please contact our office with any further information.
Q. If the boards break am I responsible?
A. Generally from time to time boards will break and this is the nature of the business. Only if pure negligence is performed (show link) where the boards should not have been used in a particular area will we pursue damages. Generally our staff will lay the boards down so there is no confusion as to where they can and can’t go.
Q. Will the boards stay in position when the bobcat is running up and down them?
A. From personal experience in using the boards for my own back patio and driveway they are the best form of protection you are going to get. The boards will generally stay in position, but where the bobcat spins and turns around there can sometimes be some displacement. It is worth your while to keep an eye on it while the bobcat digs the hole. In my own situation I would simply join them back when the bobcat travelled back to the back yard. You will understand the damage a bobcat can do when spinning around on a 4 tonne machine.
